Double Pane Windows in Raleigh, NC

Haze between the panes means the seal is gone. Cleaning will never touch it, and no coating or spray will bring it back. Free measurement.

There is a haze between the panes on one or more of your windows and no amount of cleaning does anything, because the film is on the inside of a sealed cavity you cannot reach. That is a failed seal, and it means the window is no longer doing the job you paid for. It is one of the few problems in a house with a genuinely simple diagnosis and no repair.

What Seal Failure Is and Why It Ends the Window

A double pane window is two sheets of glass separated by a spacer, with the cavity between them sealed and usually filled with argon, which insulates better than plain air. The seal around the perimeter holds that gas in and keeps moisture out.

When the seal fails, the argon escapes and humid outside air gets in. That moisture condenses on the inside surfaces when the temperature swings, and over time it leaves a permanent mineral haze etched into the glass. At that point the window has lost most of its insulating advantage and is functionally a single pane with extra weight. There are outfits that will drill the unit, dry it and reseal it. It clears the fog temporarily and does not restore the gas fill or the performance, and the haze usually returns. Replacing the insulated glass unit, or the whole window, is the real answer.

    Upgrading From Single Pane

If your Raleigh house still has single pane windows anywhere, those are almost certainly the most expensive thing in it. A single sheet of glass conducts heat freely, so in July your air conditioner is fighting the sun through every one of them, and in January the same glass is bleeding heat out.

Going to double pane is the baseline upgrade and everything else builds on top of it. Add a low-E coating tuned for a cooling climate and you are addressing the solar heat gain that dominates a Raleigh summer. Add argon fill and you improve the conduction number further. Triple pane exists and it is genuinely useful in far northern climates, but in our climate the added cost and weight rarely pays back compared to putting the same money into better glass coatings and a better frame. We will tell you where the money actually returns rather than selling you the top of the catalog.

Double Pane Window Installation Cost in Raleigh

In some cases only the insulated glass unit needs replacing rather than the whole window, and where the frame and hardware are sound that is the less expensive route. Where the frame is also failing, replacing the window makes more sense than putting new glass in a bad frame.

We check the frame before quoting and tell you which applies. Doing several at once lowers the per-window cost. Written estimate, financing available.
