Roof Replacement in Raleigh, NC
Most Raleigh roofs last 15 to 25 years. When yours is done we replace it in one to two days, haul everything away, and back the work with a written warranty.
You have probably already had a roofer or two tell you it is time. Maybe you are seeing shingle grit in the gutters, or curled edges you can spot from the driveway, or a stain on the ceiling that came back after somebody patched it. Replacing a roof is the biggest exterior bill most Raleigh homeowners ever face, and nobody wants to guess wrong on it. We will come look for free, tell you honestly whether you actually need a full replacement or just a repair, and if you do need one, put a real number in your hand the same visit.
Signs You Need a Roof Replacement
Age is the first thing to check. Most asphalt shingle roofs in the Raleigh heat and humidity run 15 to 25 years, and past twenty you are on borrowed time no matter how it looks.
After that, look for these. Granules washing out of your downspouts, which means the shingle surface is wearing through. Shingles curling at the corners or cupping in the middle. Bald patches where the black mat is showing. Several leaks in different parts of the house instead of one. Daylight visible through the roof deck when you are in the attic. Sagging along a ridge or between rafters.
Here is the part people get wrong. Waiting does not just cost you more shingles, it costs you decking. Once water gets past a worn shingle it soaks the plywood underneath, and rotted decking has to be cut out and replaced before anything new goes on. That is the difference between a normal replacement and one with a few thousand dollars of surprise carpentry in it. If your roof is younger and the trouble is in one spot, a roof repair is probably the smarter spend.
What goes on your roof, bottom to top
Shingling over an old roof skips steps 1 through 4. That is how rot gets hidden.
Our Roof Replacement Options
Every replacement starts the same way. We strip the old roof down to the deck, check every sheet of plywood, replace whatever is soft, and lay new underlayment and ice and water shield in the valleys before a single shingle goes down. Skipping the tear-off and shingling over the old roof is how you hide rot, and we do not do it.
Where jobs differ is what goes on top. New roof installation is what we do on additions, garages, and homes going from one material to another, where there is no existing roof to match. Asphalt shingle roofing is what most Raleigh homes get, and for good reason. We install GAF, CertainTeed and IKO, and the architectural shingles in those lines handle Wake County wind well while staying in a normal budget. Metal roofing installation costs more up front and lasts far longer, sheds pine needles instead of holding them, and stands up to hail better than asphalt does. And if you are already opening up the roof, skylight installation is the cheapest it will ever be, because the deck is exposed and the flashing can be integrated properly instead of cut in later.
We will walk you through the tradeoffs with real numbers, not a brochure.

Roof Replacement for Raleigh Homes
Two local things shape how we build a roof here. The first is storms. Wake County recorded 71 severe weather events in 2025, and 34 of those were thunderstorm wind events, the largest single category. Straight-line wind does not usually rip a roof off in one shot. It flexes shingles, breaks the adhesive seal underneath, and leaves them ready to lift in the next storm. That is why we care about nailing pattern and starter course more than most crews do, and why we push architectural shingles over three-tab.
The second is the tree canopy. Raleigh, Wake Forest, Garner and Cary are full of mature pines and oaks. Needles hold moisture against shingles, limbs come down in wind, and shade keeps north-facing slopes damp long enough to grow algae. On heavily shaded homes we will talk to you about algae-resistant shingles and about trimming back what is hanging over the roof.
If a storm is what put you here, start with our storm damage roof repair page, because insurance may cover the replacement.
What to Expect
You call, we come look, usually within one to three days. The inspection and the estimate are both free, and we take photos so you can see what we saw.
If you move forward, most jobs start within one to three days of approval, weather permitting. Rain moves us, and we would rather push a day than open your roof up in front of a storm.
The work itself takes one to two days on most homes. We protect your landscaping before we start, keep debris contained, haul the old roof away, and run a magnet over the yard and driveway for nails before we leave. Your warranty length and what it covers is printed in the quote before you sign.
