Cracked, loose or storm-dented siding lets water behind the wall, and by the time you see a problem inside, the sheathing is already gone. Free inspection and a written estimate.

Maybe hail dented a whole wall of it. Maybe a panel came loose in the wind and you noticed the ones next to it are faded and brittle. Maybe you have been putting it off for three years and the house is starting to look tired. Siding is easy to ignore because it usually fails slowly and quietly. The trouble is that once water gets behind a panel, the damage moves to the sheathing and framing where you cannot see it.

What Siding Problems Do You Have?

The obvious ones are cracked, split or missing panels, warped or buckled sections, and color that has faded unevenly. Hail leaves round dents and chips, usually worst on the side that faced the storm.

The ones that matter more are quieter. Panels that feel soft or spongy when you press them. Gaps opening at the corners or around windows. Paint bubbling on wood or fiber cement, which usually means moisture underneath. A power bill that has crept up, because failing siding often means failed house wrap and insulation behind it. Woodpecker holes, carpenter bees, or wasp nests in gaps, all of which mean something is already open.

Siding is also the job people most often try themselves, and it is the one where a mistake is most expensive. Panels have to hang, not be nailed tight, so they can expand and contract with the temperature. Nail them down solid and they buckle in the first hot week. Flashing at windows and doors has to be layered so water runs out rather than in. Get that backwards and you have built a funnel into your wall.

    WHAT IS BEHIND YOUR SIDING

Siding is the raincoat. The wrap is the skin.

Wind-driven rain gets behind siding on every house, in every storm. The wrap is what sends it back out instead of into your wall.

    Our Siding Services

Most jobs are one of three things. Siding repair when the damage is limited to a few panels or one elevation. Siding replacement when the existing siding is failing across the house and needs to come off. Siding installation on new construction, additions, or a change from one material to another. Whenever siding comes off, we check the sheathing underneath and handle house wrap installation before the new material goes on.

On materials, vinyl siding is the budget-friendly workhorse and still the most common thing we install in Raleigh. Fiber cement siding (Hardie Board) costs more and weighs more but handles heat, humidity and impact far better. LP SmartSide engineered wood siding sits between the two, giving you a real wood look with better moisture resistance than actual wood. Cedar and wood siding is the most beautiful and the most demanding. Board and batten siding is a vertical style we do in several of those materials. And stucco siding shows up on a share of Raleigh homes and needs a different repair approach than panel siding does.

Around the edges, soffit installation keeps your attic breathing and keeps animals out, and fascia repair is where we fix the board your gutters hang on, which in Raleigh is usually the first thing to rot. If you are not sure how bad things are, a siding inspection is free. And when a storm caused this, siding insurance claims is worth reading before you call your insurer.

    Siding for Raleigh Homes

Three local things are hard on siding here. Hail comes first. Wake County logged 8 hail reports in 2025, on two days, April 22 and May 5, and hail does not fall evenly. It concentrates on whichever elevation faced the storm, which is why a claim often covers one wall and not the house.

Wind is the more constant problem. Of the 71 severe weather events recorded in Wake County in 2025, 34 were thunderstorm wind, more than any other category. Wind gets under a loose panel and peels a run of them off in seconds.

Then humidity and the tree canopy. Long humid summers plus heavy shade from Raleigh's pines and oaks keep the north and east walls damp, which grows mildew on siding and rots wood trim, soffit and fascia. Homes in Cary, Wake Forest and older Raleigh neighborhoods with mature trees show this the most. We also see siding and roof damage together more often than not, so ask our Raleigh roofing contractor team to look at both in one visit.
