Skylight being flashed into an asphalt shingle roof in Raleigh, NC

    Skylight Installation in Raleigh, NC

Skylights get a bad reputation because most of them were flashed badly. Done properly, with the right kit, they do not leak. Free estimate, often same day.

You have a dark hallway, a stairwell with no window, or a bathroom that has never had daylight in it. Or you already have a skylight and it stains the ceiling every hard rain. Skylights carry a reputation for leaking, and the reputation is earned, but not by the skylights. It is earned by how they get put in. A skylight is a hole cut in your roof, and everything depends on how the water gets routed around it.

    When You Need Skylight Work

The best time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement. The deck is already exposed, the shingles are already coming off, and the flashing can be woven into the courses as they go on rather than cut into a finished roof afterward. It is cheaper at that moment than it will ever be again, and it is a better install.

You also need us if an existing skylight is leaking, fogging between the panes, or if the plastic dome has gone yellow and brittle. Older acrylic bubble skylights from the seventies and eighties are still on a lot of Raleigh homes and most of them are well past done. And if a previous leak was fixed with a heavy bead of roofing tar around the frame, that is not a repair, that is a countdown. Sealant fails in our sun within a few years and the leak comes right back.

    Our Skylight Installation Process

We use a manufacturer flashing kit matched to the unit and to your roof covering, every time. That kit is a set of formed metal pieces designed to layer with the shingles so water is carried around and past the opening. The alternative, which is what causes the reputation, is site-bent metal held together with sealant. It works for a while and then it does not.

Curb-mounted skylights sit on a built-up frame above the roof plane and are the more forgiving option on a lower pitch. Deck-mounted units sit closer to the roof surface, look sleeker, and work well on a steeper pitch. We will tell you which suits your roof. Inside, we frame and finish the light shaft so the ceiling opening looks intentional rather than like something cut in later. And we will be honest about placement, because a skylight on a west-facing slope in a Raleigh summer can turn a room into an oven unless you spec the right glass.

    Skylight Installation Cost in Raleigh

Price depends on the unit itself, whether it is fixed or venting or solar-powered, the size, whether we are cutting a new opening or replacing an existing one, and how much interior finish work the light shaft needs. Replacing an existing skylight during a roof replacement is the least expensive scenario. Cutting a new opening in a finished ceiling is the most.

We quote in writing with the unit model named, so you know exactly what you are getting. No hidden fees.

    Why Choose Us

We flash skylights as roofers, not as a bolt-on, which means we care about how the courses lay above and below the unit rather than just sealing around it. We are fully insured with general liability and workers' compensation, and we hand you proof of it along with your estimate. Bryan owns this company and has spent 14 years in the trades, so the read you get comes from someone who has done this work himself. Estimates are free and we can usually be out within one to three days. Your price is written down before anything starts, your workmanship warranty runs 2 to 12 years depending on the project, in writing, and financing is available.
